Press Release - 25 May 2010
The Royal Aeronautical Society is the venue for a premiere of a brand new Channel 4 TV documentary – Fighting The Red Baron. Channel 4 has chosen the Society’s headquarters, No 4 Hamilton Place, London, to preview the programme to a prestigious audience of Society members, invited guests, cast and production crew.
Fighting the Red Baron follows two modern-day pilots as they face the same challenges the aviators of WW1 faced, in order to find out how aerial warfare changed so quickly in just four years. Andy Offer and Mark Cutmore are both Red Arrows pilots, the elite of the elite, hugely skilled pilots who served in RAF operations in Afghanistan and ex-Yugoslavia respectively. In this film they fly original WW1 aircraft, and carry out the key challenges the aeroplane took on in the course of WW1: photo reconnaissance, artillery ranging and bombing missions, all leading to a final classic dogfight in replica period aircraft kitted out with camera guns.
The preliminary schedule for the evening is as follows;
Wednesday 2nd June 2010
Timings:
17.30 Arrive
18.00 Introduction by Director of the film & viewing of the programme
19.30 Finish
Members of the Aviation Press will also be welcome to attend, all we ask is that you notify the Society Events Department of your intention to attend in order that we can co-ordinate numbers. Please contact Gemma Crabb on tel 020 7670 4345 or email [email protected] if you would like to attend.
If you are unable to attend Fighting The Red Baron will be shown on Channel 4 at 9pm on Friday 4th June.
